You're Not Worthless

Judges 11:1 Jephthah was a son of a prostitute, so he had no worth with the tribe of Gilead, but God saw him as a mighty man of valor and used him to deliver Isreal from the Ammonites. This is true for us today.

Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior. His father was Gilead; his mother was a prostitute. Judges 11:1 (NIV)

Chapter 11 starts out with God calling Jephthah a mighty warrior even though the Israelites saw him as worthless because he was the son of a prostitute. Because of whom he was born to, he is driven out of his father's house and seen as an outcast. He flees to the land of Tob, an area east of Jordan for outcasts, where he bands together with other worthless men. When things got bad for the Israelites and the Ammonites were sure to take the land, his brethren come to him to save them. The Gileadite's agree to make Jephthah their leader once the Lord delivers the Amorites into his hand. He goes from a worthless outcast to a valuable leader because God said he was not worthless.

Our worth to God is not based on where we were born, what we have done, or how the world see's us, but on His love, grace, and a desire to have a relationship with us as His beloved children. Isaiah 43:4 says we are precious in HIs eyes, Matthew 10:31 says we are more precious than sparrows, Psalm 139:14 says we are wonderfully made, and John 3:16 says that He loves us so much that He gave us his only Son. Don't believe the rhetoric of this world, and consider yourself worthless, because God gives you worth. You can feel worthless because you are out of work, homeless, addicted, experiencing low self-esteem, feeling ugly, have a handicap, or come from an abusive household, but God does not feel the same. No matter what is making you feel worthless, God will say 'you are his mighty warrior' and give you worth.

Choose to follow God's call to be a mighty warrior in his army. Build a relationship with Him and confess your faith. Equip yourself for battle by living a life of prayer and wield the Scripture. Remember to listen to what the Holy Spirit is calling you to do, fight with courage, and recognize that God's strength is made perfect in your weakness. Through God, the world will see that you are not worthless.
