Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? 2 Samuel 7:18 (NKJV)

David expressed a desire to build a house for God, and Nathan the prophet, knowing his good intentions, told him to go ahead and build it. That was not what God wanted, so he talked to Nathan that night and said that David was not to build the house. He told David that God did not need to be put in a house because he was with him wherever he went. God also said that David's son, Solomon would be the one to build the house for the Lord and that David's throne would be established forever. David responded with humility and a heart of gratitude, acknowledging the greatness of God and all that he has is because of the Lord.

Like David, we need to reflect on our own lives and the ways we experience God's grace. Just as David, we can cultivate a spirit of humility and thankfulness, reminding us that our achievements are intertwined with God's work in our lives. We need to embrace our identity as beloved children of God, who are invited into a relationship that transcends our achievements and failures. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 says, "Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him."

Choose to have a humble heart before God. Acknowledge your identity as a sinner in need of a Savior, constantly dependent on God's grace and mercy. Let God lead you, casting your anxieties and cares upon him. Consistently thank God for his blessings, remembering all that He has done for you. Study the scriptures allowing God's word to correct, guide, and shape you. Always pray for His direction in your life. Remember to approach God with all humility, acknowledging His greatness and your position under His authority.
