Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in? Job 3:23 (NIV)

In chapter 3, Job curses the day he was born, wondering why God allowed him to live, only to end up in his current situation. He feels that it was better that he was never born, questioning the purpose of his existence and the reason for his suffering, yet he does not curse God Himself. Job feels that his life is surrounded by difficulties and that he cannot see a way forward and he feels confined or trapped, as if all avenues of escape or comfort are blocked by divine will. Job’s lament is not a denial of God but an honest expression of confusion and grief in the face of inexplicable trials.

Job’s experience encourages us believers to face trials with honesty while holding onto trust in God’s presence, and it is acceptable to express grief and despair openly to God. Deep suffering is a part of the human experience, and God’s patience and mercy allows space for questioning and emotional struggle, strengthening our spiritual resilience. 1 Peter 1:6-7 says, “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials… so that the tested genuineness of your faith… may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” We may not know why we go through some personal trials, but through faith in God, He gets us through our trials, and we become stronger Christians because of it.

When you are going through a difficult time, remember that God is still there with you, and if faithful to get you through any trouble you may be experiencing. God is greater than the universe and can do anything. Go to your bible and read about people like Job, Joseph, and Paul who suffered great trials, remained faithful, and were blessed by God. If He was there for them, He will be there for you. Pray to God and be honest with Him about the pain and suffering you are feeling, praying not only to remove it, but for God to get you through it. See suffering as a means of growth, find community support to help carry the burden and remind you of God’s faithfulness. Remember to keep looking to Jesus whose ways are not hidden and always there for you in a time of need.
