For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images. 2 Chronicles 34:3 (NKJV)
Josiah became king of Judah when he was eight years old and by the age of sixteen, was seeking the Lord, laying a foundation for revival in all the land. By the twelfth year he was purging all the idols in all the land that replaced God, and in the eighteenth year of his reign started repairing the temple where Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord. The book was taken to Josiah, and it was read to him, convicting and humbling him, and starting a revival in Judah. King Josiah had the book read to all of Judah who heard it and did according to the covenant of God.
Like Josiah, it is important to bring God into our children's and grandchildren's lives at an early age. In Mark 10:14, Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” When children seek God early, they often develop a strong foundation of trust in Him, which can influence their moral and relational choices. They become more attuned to God’s presence in daily life, learning to pray, read Scripture, and live out Christian values through example. As parents and grandparents, it is our job to get our children to seek the Lord while they are still young.
Choose to lead your kids and grandkids to follow God at an early age. You are God's stewards in your children's spiritual lives, nurturing them in a way that honors the Lord and setting them up for an eternal life with Him. Pray for your children while they are still in the womb and pray with them from the time they are born till they leave your house. Be a living example for them and read them bible stories when they are toddlers and the bible with them as they get older. Attend church with them on a weekly basis, keeping Jesus central in your family life, knowing that church is a supplement for home based spiritual training. When you bring your children to God at an early age, they become rooted in Him and grow into a person who trusts Him, seeks truth, and lives with compassion.
