2 Chronicles 35:21 God does not just use Christians for His good works and sometimes we need to step out of His way.

But he sent messengers to him, saying, "what have I to do with you, king of Judah? I have not come against you this day, but against the house with which I have war; for God commanded me to make haste. Refrain from meddling with God, who is with me, lest He destroy you." 2 Chronicles 35:21 (NKJV)

At the end of the Passover feast, Josiah hears that Necho, king of Egypt has come to fight Carchemish, one of the last strongholds of the Assyrians, so he decided to go to battle against Egypt. Necho sends him a warning not to go fight against him because he had no quarrel with Josiah, and the God had called him to defeat the Assyrians. He warned him that messing with God's plans would get him killed, but Josiah still went and fought in the Valley of Megiddo and was mortally wounded by an arrow.

Even though our plans may not align with what God has planned for us, God's plan will ultimately prevail because He is sovereign and He knows our future. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails” and Ephesians 1:11 says, "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will." There are many roads for us to follow, but some roads are jagged, filled with potholes that we get stuck in, but they all lead to the same location which fulfills God's purpose for us. When we follow God's will, we choose the smoothest road to follow.

Choose to follow the will of God and take the best road to achieve His good purpose for your life. Go to God and pray about every situation, asking for His guidance and will in your life. Listen to the Holy Spirit that resides in you, ignoring your pride that will lead you in the wrong direction. Seek counsel from an elder or pastor in your church in the direction that you should take when you are at a crossroads. Read the bible daily and test your plans against scripture, choosing not to follow a plan that doesn't conform with God's word. When you take the road that God leads you to, you’ll experience His direction, protection, growth, and the peace of knowing you’re moving toward His good will.
