Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest [b]He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. Psalm 2:11-12 (NKJV)

Psalm 2 asks why rulers and nations plot against the Lord and His anointed Son. The Lord sits in heaven and laughs at the idea of attacking His Son because He is the King of the universe and no persons or nation would be able to stand against Him. God tells the rulers of the earth to serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling, bowing at the feet of Jesus. All who do so and put their trust in Him will be blessed.

We are called to serve the Lord with fear, which is a reverential awe, recognizing God’s holiness, justice, and absolute authority. We are to do the same for Jesus, the promised son. Acts 13:32-33 says, “We tell you the good news: What God promised our ancestors he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: 'You are my son; today I have become your father.'" Jesus came to earth to save us from eternal death, and we are to serve and fear Him just as God, because He is God in the flesh. He is what God promised our ancestors and no person, or nation can stand up to the majesty of His power.

Choose to fear the Lord and Jesus by living with reverent awe of God’s holiness, obeying His commands, and offering your whole life as a living sacrifice to Him. Start with daily prayer, scripture reading, and worship help you recognize God’s greatness, following His word in your thoughts and deeds. Give control of your life to Him, trusting in His will for you. Use your gifts to serve and honor God, bringing honor to Him as you serve others. Jesus is what God promised our ancestors, and we need to fear and serve him, which is giving Him the awe and respect that is due, and living out that respect in obedience, love, and worship.
