What Do You Know

What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not in us? Job 15:9 (NKJV)
Eliphaz challenges Job's rebuttal, questioning his understanding and the limits of his wisdom. His question challenges Job’s claims and complaints, implying that Job does not possess secret knowledge beyond that of his friends. Even though Job is correct, Eliphaz emphasizes human limitations in understanding God’s purposes. He suggests that no one has complete knowledge of divine wisdom, and those who presume to know more than others may be overestimating their insight.
Like Eliphaz and Job, all believers today have limits to the understanding and wisdom of God. In Romans 8:33, Paul declares the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God, and how unsearchable they are. As believers we are not to judge other Christians because of the limits of their understanding, because we have our own limits. Instead, we are called to help our fellow believers understand the scripture as we strive to learn more about the ways of God. Hebrews 5:12-14 says, "In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
Choose to spend each day getting to know God a little more, striving to understand and get closer to Him. Learn about God through reading His word every day, meditating on and searching the verses that you read. Attend church regularly and take notes on what the pastor is teaching so you can search out the scripture after the sermon. Attend a bible study and be an active participant, sharing your knowledge and insight with fellow believers. Be ready to search out all scripture that is recited to you so that you can retain it and make sure it is used in the correct context. Do not to judge a fellow believer for theological mistakes because they may still be drinking the milk of the word and need an admonition on the true meaning. Remember that what you may know is less than another believer and is dwarfed in the eyes of God.
