For who will heed you in this matter? But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.” 1 Samuel 30:24 (NKJV)

David and his men get sent back to their city after being rejected by the Phillistine princes in the battle against the Israelites. They find their city of Ziklag burned to the ground, and their wives, children and livestock all missing. David prays to the Lord to see if he should pursue the Amalekites who raided their city and the Lord says to do so. Tired and hungry, he takes his 600 men and goes after the Amalekites and comes to Brook Besor, where 200 men stay to guard the supplies because they are too weak to go on. The other 400 men overtake the Amalekites, kill them all, and retrieved the women, children, plus the spoils of war. Upon returning to the 200 men left behind, the ones that went to battle give the 200 what is theirs but do not want to share the spoils. David reminds the soldiers that everyone had a part to play in the battle, and everyone deserves a share of the spoils.

Like David's men, we all play a part in God's plan. 1 Corinthians 12:24-25 says, " But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other." Every one of us has a part to play in the church and each part is just as important. Like David and his men, God views each part that the members of His church play, just as important as the others. The person that cleans the bathrooms is just as important as the pastor. The person that does the yard work is just important as the person leading worship. We all have gifts that God can use, and we all have a part to play in His church.

Choose to volunteer your talents to your church. God did not save you to make you an observer of His word, but a doer of his work. When we were saved, we were given a calling to help grow his church, so that more could be saved. Be a greeter, make coffee, be on the prayer team, clean up after service, volunteer with a recovery program, visit the elderly, take care of the needy, or provide a ride to some that needs to get to church. There are so many more things that you can do. Talk to your pastor and ask where you can help. Any part you play is just as important as the rest and will help grow a mighty church that brings Jesus to your community: one person at a time.
