And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; 1 Kings 2:3 (NKJV)

David was on his deathbed and he called his son, Solomon to give last words advice. The most important counsel that he gave Solomon, was to walk in God's ways, keep His commandments, His judgements, and His testimonies. David's reign was filled with bloodshed and sin, yet he was known as a man after God's own heart. Being “a man after God’s own heart” showed that David’s desires, intentions, and actions aligned with God’s will, even though he was not perfect. He knew that his son would sin, but as long as he walked with God, his throne would be established.

Walking with God means to live in a close, personal relationship with the Lord, characterized by trust, obedience, and intimacy. It symbolizes a journey of faith and communion with God, where we seek divine guidance and surrender to His will, leading to spiritual growth and transformation. Colossians 1:10 says. "So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God." How do we know if we are walking with God? When you walk with God, you will notice changes in your thoughts, behaviors, and desires. Your identity becomes rooted in being loved by Him, and you begin to reflect His character in your daily life.

Choose to walk in a manner worthy of God. Start each morning with prayer, seeking His guidance. Read the bible daily and meditate on it, even if it is a single verse. Plug into a church and do not forsake the assembling together with other Christians, encouraging each other daily. When you sin, give it to God immediately and do not let it control your life. Remember that you are not perfect but made perfect through the blood of Jesus Christ. When you choose to walk with God, you enter a close, intimate relationship with Him, and He guides your ways.
