Too Much to Handle

Job 10:15 Just like Job, life's problems can feel like too much to handle, and it is ok to let God know, but it is also ok to lay your burdens on Him.

If I am wicked, woe to me; Even if I am righteous, I cannot lift up my head. I am full of disgrace; See my misery! Job 10:15 (NKJV)

After calling for a mediator, Job begins a personal plea to God, expressing his anguish, confusion, and questions about suffering, pouring out his heart to God, and asking for understanding rather than just answers. As he confronts his suffering and inner turmoil, Job considers two possibilities: if he has sinned, his pain is deserved; if he is blameless, he still feels powerless and overwhelmed by shame. Either way, Job experiences a sense of helplessness before God’s majesty and justice.

Jesus promised that as Christians we would have trials. Just like Job, some of them might seem like they are too much for us to handle and we may not know why we are going through the pain, experiencing a sense of helplessness before God. That is when we need to keep our confidence in Jesus, having the faith in Him that He will comfort us, give us strength, and the guidance to help us carry on. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day… our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory.” Whatever troubles we are going through, they are momentary and we need to look to the eternal glory that is awaiting us in heaven with Jesus.

When life feels overwhelming, choose to remind yourself that you are not alone and God is with you in your struggles. Acknowledge your feelings to God and start in prayer asking Him to guard your heart and mind. Re-center your life and focus on God, searching scripture for verses of comfort, God's love, and the control He has over any situation. Lean on other believers for the support you need and reach out to a Christian counselor professional help. Life does not need to be too much to handle because you have Jesus who is faithful to take your pain and give you comfort.
