Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him. Job 13:15 (NKJV)
At the start of chapter 13 Job rebukes his friends as “worthless physicians," declaring that their understanding is limited and flawed. After letting his friends know that he would rather talk to God directly than have them misrepresent Him, he makes one of the strongest statements of faith in scripture. In a profound statement of his faith, Job declares that his trust in God is not based on blessings or favorable circumstances and even in extreme suffering, he chooses loyalty to God’s character rather than to his own comfort.
Job's radical statement of faith sets the example for us and captures the posture of unconditional trust and honest dialogue with God, even when circumstances seem to contradict His goodness. We can unconditionally trust God because He unconditionally loves us. Paul says in Romans 8:38–39, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 is a profound declaration of God’s unbreakable love. It assures us that no external or spiritual force can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus, offering enduring comfort, hope, and confidence in the midst of life’s uncertainties.
Choose to have the radical faith of Job, trusting God with your life even when all seems lost. Write Job 13:15 and Romans 8:38-39 on a card or put it phone as a screen saver and commit them to memory, so you can refer to them in times of trouble. Write down truths about God character and declare them during trials, reminding yourself about His unconditional love and Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for your eternal life. Sing praises even in suffering and surround yourself with believers who affirm Scripture’s authority and truth. When you have the radical faith of Job, you will find peace and blessings, even in the worst of times.
