So, he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 2 Kings 6:16 (NKJV)
King Ben-Hadad of Syria is at war with Israel and suspects that there is a traitor in his troops because Israel is always one step ahead of him. After finding out that there is no traitor and that Elisha knows all his thoughts, he sends an army to Dothan to capture him. The army encamps around him, and his servant knows they are doomed. Elisha has no fear and shows his servant the army of angels surrounding the Syrian troops. He then blinds them and leads them to Samaria where he tells the king of Isreal to feed them and release them so that they can go back to their own land.
Like the servant of Elisha, we sometimes feel overwhelmed, and we feel doomed because the problems of this world are encircling us. But we have One that is greater than all the problems. We have God the Father who created us, we have God the Son who came down from heaven to save us, and we have God the Holy Spirt who is in us to guide and protect us. Corinthians 13:14 says, "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." We have the big three, who created the universe and all that is in it on our side, so when we are feeling weak, we need to say, "Those that are with us are greater than those that are against us."
Choose to say this prayer of protection when you are alone and feel weak:
"Father, I want to live in the shadow of Your wing. When life is hard, and I don’t know what to do, help me remember that You are with me and that I am never alone."
Write it down and keep it somewhere you can access it. Plug into a church or faith-based recovery group where your brothers and sisters in Christ can gather around you for prayer in times of need. Commit to a life that includes daily prayer and regular bible reading to equip yourself to face the foes of this life. Choose to say and know in your heart that Those who are for you are greater that those who are against you.
