And these were his officials: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest; Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, over the army; Zadok and Abiathar, the priests; Azariah the son of Nathan, over the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan, a priest and the king’s friend; Ahishar, over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda, over the labor force. 1 Kings 4:2-6 (NKJV)

Unlike David's reign, where he filled the military positions in his government first, Solomon first chooses a spiritual leader. He realizes that true wisdom comes from first seeking God's guidance and highlights the importance of a well-organized and efficient government, which is essential for the success of a nation.

Seeking God in leadership is not just important in government, but in all the places we lead today. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” When we are leading others, always seek God’s guidance first. God has us lead in our homes, our bible studies, small groups, in church organizations, or planned events. It may be something small, but it is just as important to seek God guidance first. When we do that, no matter the size, we are successful.

Choose to seek God first wherever he chooses you to lead. Ask for his guidance in choosing people to help and create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and heard. Choose to pray for the people in your group and lead with a humble spirit, knowing that God placed you in a position of authority. When you are Spirit led, God brings success in whatever you do.
