Now these were the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel. 1 Chronicles 11:10 (NKJV)

King David had thirty-seven mighty men who were known as "the thirty", who strengthen him and helped establish his kingdom. They were known for their bravery, loyalty, and exceptional military skills. These men followed God, who used them to capture Jerusalem, God's city, and to secure victories over Israel's enemies. The term "The Thirty" is used in 2 Samuel 23:24, which mentions the group as a whole and 1 Chronicles chapter 11 lists their individual accomplishments. They all had specific skills and accomplishments, but they all worked together as one, for a greater purpose.

Just like David's men, the church today has mighty men and women who have individual talents, but as one body bring Jesus to the world. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says, "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ." Unity in the church comes from a diverse group of people embracing their unique gifts, working in harmony with others, to achieve one goal: bringing people to Christ, one person at a time. God calls them mighty because they have a love for Him, a love for mankind, and are willing to serve.

Choose to be a mighty person for God and put your gifts to use. It does not matter where you serve as long as it is for God. You can be the pastor, you can do yard maintenance, or you can great people. Choose to have a heart for God in your service. God looks at your heart when you serve, and He counts it as worthy for the propagation of His kingdom. Go to your pastor or an elder of the church and ask, "Where can I serve?" Do a self-evaluation and see where your gifts can be used. You could bring Christ to the homeless, go on a mission, do VBS, start a home group, or just invite people to church. There are so many things that can be done for the service of God, and when you do so, He calls you mighty!
