And the children of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned! Do to us whatever seems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray.” Judges 10:15 (NKJV)
God refuses to save the children of Israel from the Philistines and Ammon. They chose to forsake their Lord and worship the gods of the nations around them and were subdued by those nations. Isreal cried out to God to save them but kept on serving the other gods. So, God answers them and say's, cry out to their gods and let them deliver you. Then the true act of repentance happened. They got rid of all the foreign idols that had caused their oppression and asked from the heart and were willing to do whatever the Lord asked. God's soul could no longer endure the misery of Isreal, so He decided to save them.
Like Isreal, Christians today tend to conform to this world, replacing biblical truth with that of the world around them. We put our money, our possessions, our self-righteousness, our success, and our relationships before God. We worship all that and forget God, except on Sunday mornings. Then we get in trouble and say, "Why God, why are you letting me go through this? Why don't you save me?" The answer is that we are not willing to put our gods away and serve our one true God. Serving God is an everyday thing and not just for Sunday morning. Romans 12:2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." It is not easy. We have to do a moral and searching inventory each and every day to see what is separating us from God. We need to pray and read the bible daily and meditate on His word.
Choose to put away your idols and serve God first. Start your day with prayer and bible reading, even if it is a simple prayer and one verse. Meditate on that verse and search your heart for what God is telling you. Do an inventory at the end of each day so see what you put before God. If you do fall away from God and get that divine wake-up call, put away your idols and choose to serve Him, because He is faithful and just and will help you.
