And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.' 2 Chronicles 20:15 (NKJV)
An overwhelming army from Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir came to battle against Jehoshaphat and he knew that they only way he was going to win was with God on his side. He proclaimed a fast throughout all of Judah and in front of the whole assembly cried out to God saying that He was faithful to Abraham when He drove out the inhabitants of the land and gave it to his people. Jehoshaphat admitted that he had no power against the great multitude and that he needed God, so the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, a Levite who proclaimed the battle was not theirs, but the Lord's. Judah went into battle singing and when they reached the enemy, they found them all dead because God had caused them to fight each other.
Like Jehoshaphat, we can become overwhelmed by a multitude of problems in our lives that we cannot defeat. But we have God to fight for us when all seems lost. Jesus says in John 16:33, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world.” Jesus already won the biggest fight for us... our salvation, so He is faithful to be with us when life seems too difficult to bear.
When life becomes unbearable, choose to be like Jehoshaphat and admit that you feel powerless and call on the Lord to fight your battle for you. Call on other believers to pray with you, giving you the strength to face your battles. Remember the battles that God has won for you in the past, sing and give praise to Him, knowing that He is faithful to get you through your current trials. The battle is the Lord's and when you put your faith in Him, He will get you through a multitude of troubles.
