In his pride, King Ahasuerus made a feast to show off the riches of his kingdom and the splendor of his majesty. In the seventh day, when the king was drunk, he commanded his eunuchs to get Queen Vashti so that he could display her beauty to the guests as another one of his possessions. However, Queen Vashti refused to appear before the king’s drunken guests showing the importance of maintaining personal dignity and moral integrity, even under pressure from authority, not compromising ethical standards or self-respect. Her decision not to adhere to the king's request resulted in losing her position as queen.
Queen Vashti’s courage in standing by her convictions, despite the personal cost, serves as a model for the moral courage and integrity we need when facing the pressure to conform to societies norms. When we became believers, we chose to follow God and his ways, so when the world tries to pressure us to follow anything that is not of Him, we need remember who we are trying to please. Galatians 1:10 says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Being a servant of Christ means that sometimes our principals do no line up with society and there are consequences, but we need to remember what we gained by following Christ. Matthew 16:26 says, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”
Choose to be a servant of Christ and stand your ground when pressured to submit to the morals of the world. Gather with fellow believers but be careful of advice given to you that may not be of God and search the bible for His truth. With grace, correct fellow believers of their misconceptions, alerting them to what the Word says about a subject. Strengthen yourself with daily bible reading, regular church attendance, and prayer so that you can know what the true and good will of God is. When you stand your ground Jesus says, "well done, My good and faithful servant."
