Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?” 1 Chronicles 1:10 (NKJV)
After Solomon is anointed king, God appears to him in a dream and tells him that whatever he asks for will be granted. Solomon first thanks God for fulfilling the promise to He made to David, making Solomon king over a people as great in number as the dust of the earth. Solomon then asks for wisdom and knowledge, reflecting his understanding that true leadership requires discernment and understanding to guide a large nation. God responds by granting Solomon’s request for wisdom and knowledge, promising additional blessings such as wealth, honor, and long life.
King Solomon reminds us that wisdom is a divine gift that gives us discernment, humility, moral understanding, and the ability to apply knowledge for righteous and just living. Like Solomon, we first need to humble ourselves and thank God for all the promises that He has fulfilled in our lives. Then we seek God's wisdom, which he has already provided for us in His written word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." When we look to the written word for wisdom, God blesses us and like Solomon, gives us so much more.
Choose to be like Solomon and ask God for the wisdom to lead your life. Pray daily for His wisdom and earnestly seek it in the written word each morning. Let it guide the decisions that you make throughout the day. If you feel conflicted about a decision you are going to make, talk to your pastor or an elder about it. They can guide you to scripture that can lead you in the correct path. There are so many things in this world that can lead you astray, but when you first seek the wisdom that comes from God's Word, you are led on a better path.
