For the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord. 2 Chronicles 11:14 (NKJV)

Even though Rehoboam had rejected the advice of his fathers elders and split Israel in two, he was still listening to the Lord. When he was gathering his military to go fight the northern ten tribes, God told him through the prophet Shemaiah not to fight against his brothers and he obeyed. Jeroboam, the king of the northern ten tribes rejected God and put pagan worship in His place, so the Levites left their land and possessions and went to Judah, where the true God was being followed. They came to Isreal with nothing because worshiping the Lord was more important than their comfort.

Like the Levitical priests, Christians need to run from sin, which can also mean running from comfort. Satan makes sin comfortable by offering immediate gratification or relief from stress, loneliness, or guilt, but in the long run, it makes things worse. That drink that we may take at the end of the day or the site you go to offer relief from stress at work can separate us from our families, friends, and God. It can lead to moral and financial ruin. Instead, we need to look to things of God for our comfort. 1 Timothy 6:11–12 says, "But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

Choose to run from sin and go to God for your comfort. When you are feeling stressed, take time to pray to God, asking him for relief and guidance, searching the bible for inspiration, and meditating on it. Go to your pastor, elders of the church, and Christian friends for guidance. Do not forsake regular church attendance, join a life group, and attend church outings. Start a home group and invite your friends and neighbors to study the word with you. When you choose to run from sin and head to the Lord, He provides you more comfort and peace of mind than any sin can ever do.
