Now You have been pleased to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You have blessed it, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever.” 1 Chronicles 17:27 (NKJV)

David inquires of God through the prophet Nathan if he can build a house for God because he wants to give the honor that is due to Him. God lets David know that he will not be the one to build a house for the Lord, but that he has a greater plan for the line of David. He told David that he brought him from the sheepfold to be ruler over His people and that from his son's, his kingdom would be established forever, foreshadowing the One, Jesus Christ, that would establish an eternal kingdom. David says, "Who am I, O Lord God?", showing his reverence and awe for an undeserved blessing.

Like David, we don't deserve the blessings that God bestows on us, so we give God all the glory, honor, and praise for who He is and what He has done for us. Hebrews 12:28–29 says, “Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be filled with gratitude, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. For our God is a consuming fire.” Reverent awe is not just an emotional reaction but a choice we make when we recognize God’s holiness, authority, and power. When we accepted the work Christ did on the cross, He pulled us from the sheepfold to rule with him forever in His eternal kingdom. We were given an undeserved blessing.

Choose to make the statement, "Who am I, O Lord, God?" Give God all the honor, glory, and praise due to Him who sent His only Son to die on the cross for you. Raise your hands in church and at home to give Him the praise that is due to him. Praise God for all you have and all that He has provided for you. Choose to live a holy life, avoiding ungodliness, and living a self-controlled upright life. Meditate on the living word of God and let it guide your actions, choosing to obey God's commands. Reverent Awe is not just a choice but is a profound feeling of respect and honor given to the Lord for the undeserved blessing He has bestowed on you.
