And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God. Nehemiah 9:3 (NKJV)

After reading the law, the people gathered together to confess their sins and worship the Lord. They stared by remembering the good that God had done for them and that He was there when they fell away from Him. They admitted that in their sin, God was still taking care of them, and willing to forgive. They acknowledged the victories that the Lord had won for them and even though they went into sin, God was slow to anger, patiently waiting for them to return to Him. They recognized that when they had forsaken Him, the Lord let them fall but was there when they called on Him. They admitted that God is just, and because of it chose to make a sure covenant with Him.

Like the people of Judah, we fall short and sin, yet God is still there for us. Romans 3:23-24 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." God doesn't expect us to be perfect because He knows we were born of sin, yet he does want us to come to Him, admitting our sinful nature, and acknowledging though His Son, Jesus Christ, we are renewed, building a sure covenant with Him.

Choose to accept the new life given to you when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and build a relationship with Him that is good and true. Remember that even though you accepted Christ, you still will sin, but God no longer see's you for those sins. Do and inventory each day and see where you have fallen short, admitting your sins and giving them to God. When talking to God, worship Him for all the good He had done, how He was always there for you, even when you fell away, and was there to pick you back up when you came running into His arms. Repentance leads to renewal and a closer relationship with God.
