Nehemiah 5:19 When faced with the injustice that the poor were receiving at the hands of the rich, Nehemiah makes things right. Just like Nehemiah, we need to choose to do good.

Remember me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people. Nehemiah 5:19 (NKJV)

When there was an outcry by the poor about how their rich brethren were taking advantage of them, Nehemiah stepped into action, calling the nobles out and letting them know what they were doing was against what God commanded. The rich promised to give back all that they had taken from the poor and did as Nehemiah requested. Nehemiah also refused to take the governor's provisions for himself like the governors before him that laid burdens on the people, receiving just what he needed to live.

Hebrews 13:16 states, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." Just like Nehemiah, the importance of generosity and kindness in Christian life pleases God and we are encouraged to actively engage in good deeds and to share our resources, time, and talents with those in need, reflecting God’s love and compassion. We can do that by offering assistance to neighbors, friends, or strangers in need, sharing our time, money, or skills to support charitable causes or community needs, and performing small acts of kindness, like listening, encouraging, or volunteering, reflecting God’s love.

Choose to search your heart and share the gifts that God has given to you, showing the love of Christ to all those around you. If you see a hungry person, take them to lunch, sit down with them and have a conversation. The time you spend with them gives them self-worth and is just as important as the food they eat. Visit the elderly and widows, helping clean up their yard or house while listening to their stories. If you see someone that is cold, provide them a jacket. It does not take a great gesture to show Jesus' love, but it does show His love when you do His good deeds, in which He is pleased.
