After becoming king, Joash set it in his heart to repair the temple that Queen Athaliah left in ruin, so he had the priests gather money throughout Judah to repair it. But the Levites did not do it quickly, so he went to Jehoiada who guided him and delegated the priests to collect the money for the temple. The money was collected in abundance, and the temple was not only restored, but reinforced, strengthening the building to withstand time and use.
Like Solomon's temple, our bodies which is the temple of God, can be left in ruins due to choices that we made in our lives. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul writes: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, glorify God with your body" The sites we look at, the food we eat, the drugs we do, and what we choose to listen to are all things that leads to disrepair in our temples. We are called to live in a way that reflects our status as temples of the Holy Spirit. This includes making choices that align with God's will and avoiding actions that could put our temples in ruin.
Choose to reclaim your temple for God, choosing not only repair what is damaged, but to reinforce it so you can withstand the trials and temptations that may come your way. Join a faith-based recovery program like Celebrate Recovery and give your hurts, habits, and hangups to Jesus. Read your bible daily and pray for discernment, so that you may know the will of the Lord. Find a church to plug into, so that you can have a community of believers to support and guide you. When you restore and reinforce your temple, the Holy Spirit that dwells within it can lead you in the ways of the Lord and bring life, healing, and renewal.
