He shall pray unto God, and he will be favorable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness. Job 33:26 (KJV)
In his speech to Job, Elihu explains that God communicates with humans through suffering and correction, ultimately aiming to restore them. He says that the spiritual outcome of sincere prayer is divine acceptance, joy, and restoration. He lets Job know that prayer is a pathway to God's favor and renewal of righteousness, which can manifest in both spiritual and physical well-being. Elihu affirms that God’s justice is flawless and impartial, and we can trust that He sees all and will make all things right in His time.
Just as in Job's case, prayer is important in our daily lives to bring joy and restoration. In times of trouble, it is important that the first thing we go to is prayer. James 5:16 says, “Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” Turning to God in prayer opens the way for His favor, and He responds to the sincere petitions of His people. Philippians 4:6-7, says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Prayer also allows believers to release burdens, anxieties, and fears, replacing them with peace and hope, resulting in God’s peace guarding the heart and mind.
Choose to start your day out with prayer and make it part of your daily routine, praying often to God throughout the day. Prayer is the best way to communicate with God. Jesus gave us the Lord's prayer as an example. Start your prayer by acknowledging that God is holy, faithful and good. Pray for God's plan to be fulfilled in your life, asking Him for strength, provision, guidance, or help in specific situations. Remember to pray for your family, friends, the church, leadership and His intercession in the world. Admit your mistakes and ask God to forgive you, just as you forgive others, and pray for help to resist temptation and for protection from harm. End your prayer by thanking God for hearing your words and for His presence in your life. Prayer is powerful, and even in the worst of times, it restores joy.
