“Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord. 2 King 20:5 (NKJV)
Isaiah the prophet tells King Hezekiah to put his house in order because he has three days to live. Hezekiah immediately turns to the wall and prays to the Lord symbolizing a deep, personal act of prayer and seeking God's favor during a time of crisis. Hezekiah weeps, acknowledging his vulnerability and earnestly appeals to God for healing and guidance. Before Isaiah even got out of the middle court, the Lord told him that He heard Hezekiah's prayer and that he would give him fifteen years more of life. God also told Isaiah that He would deliver Hezekiah out of the hands of Assyria and defend the city for His own sake.
Like Hezekiah, prayer still heals today. James 5:16 says, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." We hear stories everyday about how prayer has healed cancer, brought someone back to life, gave someone their mobility, or many other instances where the impossible was done. Prayer is powerful and does way more than that. Prayer can significantly reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, which in turn can improve overall mental health. When people engage in prayer, they have a greater sense of control and peace, which can help them cope with health challenges more effectively. Prayer can save marriages, bring families back together, change hearts, save the lost, and many more things. Prayer is powerful and we use it to build a relationship with God based on faith and trust.
Choose to believe in prayer and the power that it has. Find a quiet place without distractions, so that you can focus on God. Start your prayer with reverence, adoration, and praise for God and what He has done for you. Pray with sincerity and faith, aligning your requests with His will. Use the Lord's prayer as an example as Jesus directed us to. Remember to pray during the day, depending on God for guidance. When you make prayer part of everything you do, you unlock a powerful gift that God has bestowed on you.
