Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel. 1 Kings 9:4-5 (NKJV)

King Solomon has just finished dedicating the temple that he has just built, and the Lord appears to him a second time. God lets Solomon know that as long as he keeps God's commandments, he will always have a son on the throne. But God warns Solomon, that if he or any of his sons turn away from His commandments or worship other gods, all of Israel would be cut off from the land and the temple cast out of His sight. Solomons decisions not only affect him, but all of Israel. God lets Solomon know that obedience to His commandments is essential for receiving His blessings and protection.

Like Solomon, obedience to God is essential to us today. Jesus says in John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” Obedience shows our love for Him and our faithfulness to His commands. It is part of a lifestyle characterized by righteousness, modeling the example set by Jesus Christ. Obedience to God is not just about following rules; it is about learning to trust, follow, and love God more each day. It is about reflecting God's character and showing His love to those around us. When we are obedient to God, we receive peace and harmony, divine protection, prosperity and provision, and a better connection with God.

Choose to have a life of obedience to God. Start each morning with prayer, asking for His guidance throughout the day. Study His word every day, seeking His wisdom, and making a correction to your path if you start to stray. Surround yourself with other believers who can help you on your path. Most of all, embrace the grace and forgiveness offered by Jesus. Everyone stumbles on their walk with God, but when you strive to be obedient to His commands, He bestows His goodness upon you.
