For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, Job 19:25-26 (NKJV)
Job rebukes his friends for their harsh words and accusations and tells them that even if he has sinned, it is his own matter, not theirs to judge. After he laments his suffering, Job declares his faith in a Redeemer, showing his trust in God’s justice and ultimate deliverance even when his understanding and that of his friends fails. He anticipates that even though his body may decay, he will be restored and see God with his own fleshly eyes, highlighting the Christian concept of bodily resurrection and eternal life.
"My Redeemer Lives" is a deeply comforting and a frequently quoted bible verse in Christian circles, especially around Easter, but the only bible reference to it is in Job 19:25. Even though Jesus had not yet died on the cross, Job had the faith that he would be vindicated by the God, and 'God in the flesh' would stand on earth, foreshadowing the coming of Jesus. John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" which emphasizes the incarnation and God’s presence among humanity. Like Job, we know that we will see Jesus in heaven and will receive a new body, but we also need to look for Jesus here on earth.
When times are hard, know that you will see Jesus, face to face in heaven, but also choose to see Him everywhere you go. See Jesus today in the world, in all creation, in the good times, in the bad times, in the miracles around you, in the poor, in the comforters, on the streets, and in your everyday life. When you choose to look for Jesus, you will find him and be able to say, "My Redeemer Lives," because you have seen Him in all around you, and you know He will be able to deliver you from anything.
