Lord, Use Me

And next to him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to the LORD, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor. 2 Chronicles 17:16 (NKJV)

King Jehoshaphat was a righteous king who followed the Lord and had captains who also had a zeal for God. Of his captains, Amasiah followed the Lord and offered himself to God to be used for His purposes. Because of it, Jehoshaphat's kingdom became mighty and the fear of the Lord fell on all the nations around him, who did not make war against Judah.

Like Jehoshaphat and his men, God makes us mighty when we submit to His will and do His good works. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." When we offer ourselves to God and serve where He leads us, we are transformed from self-serving to self-giving, and service becomes a natural response. We find joy in whatever He leads us to do and those around us see it, and say "I want that," leading them Christ, and the joy of serving Him. When we serve where God leads, we reflect His character and become compassionate, selfless, and unified in purpose.

Choose to say to God, "Lord, use me for Your greater purpose." Ask your pastor or elder where you can best serve the church, and pray to God, asking Him for direction in your life. You can be a greater, teach Sunday school, help church missions, pass out flyers, do church maintenance, feed the homeless, help the widows and elderly, or lead a bible study. There are opportunities everywhere to serve God, but you must be willing to offer yourself to His will, and He will make you mighty in whatever you do.
