O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Nehemiah 1:11 (NKJV)
Upon hearing that his homeland of Judah was in distress, with the walls broken down and gates burned with fire, Nehemiah mourned, then fasted and prayed to God. He could have chosen to act spontaneously or given up on the situation, but Nehemiah chose to go to God first, looking for direction. He started his prayer, letting God know how great and an awesome God He is and that He keeps his promises. Nehemiah then acknowledges his and the people's sin, led them into captivity, stating that the Lords strong hand would deliver them to His dwelling place when they turned to Him. Nehemiah makes one last request for the Lord to hear the prayer of a servant who desires Him, granting him mercy and prosperity.
Just like Nehemiah, we find ourselves in some type of trouble from time to time, mostly due to our own actions, and instead of giving up or trying to fix it on our own, we need to pray a prayer of supplication to our God. We need to acknowledge that we have sinned and that we need God's help in our situation, believing that He will come through for us. When we ask God to hear our prayer, it needs to be heartfelt, sincere, deeply emotional, and an authentic communication with God, reflecting a genuine connection and devotion.
Choose to pray from the heart, trusting that God will come through for you in your time of trouble. Prepare your heart before you begin praying, by singing worship songs, speaking affirmations, or kneeling, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide your prayer. Be honest and vulnerable with God, speaking your heart as you would do with a close friend. Use scripture in your prayer calling on His good promises and make prayer a part of your daily life, so that when you need that prayer of supplication, it will come easier. Most of all, acknowledge God's goodness, expressing your gratitude and trust in Him. When you call on God from your heart, He hears your prayer.
