"Then he set up the pillars by the vestibule of the temple; he set up the pillar on the right and called its name Jachin, and he set up the pillar on the left and called its name Boaz." This verse describes the construction of the temple by King Solomon, where the pillars Jachin and Boaz were established to support its structure. 1 Kings 7:21 (NKJV)
King Solomon brings in Hiram, the best craftsman in all of Israel to do the bronze and gold work in the temple. The first two works Hiram creates are the bronze pillars at the front of the temple named Jachin and Boaz. Jachin was set on the right of the temple entrance and means "He will establish," symbolizing God's promise to provide strength and support for His people. Boaz, which was set on the left side of the temple entrance means "In Him is strength," indicating that God's strength is found in His people. These pillars serve as a reminder of God's faithfulness and the establishment of His presence among His people, reflecting the covenant relationship between God and Israel.
For us today Jachin and Boaz symbolize the foundation of faith and reliance on Jesus. These pillars foreshadowed the coming of Jesus who is our source of unwavering stability and strength. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” Jesus establishes us through His divine plan and the power of the Holy Spirit and provides a foundation for believers to stand firm in their faith.
Choose to go to Jesus for your source of strength when you feel weak. He is faithful and will always be there for you. Make Him the pillar of your life. Set aside regular devotionals, go on walks, or listen to worship music to show Him as the most important part of your life. Engage with friends and communities who share your faith to provide accountability and encouragement. Throughout the day, pray, read scripture, and invite Him into your thoughts and decisions. When Jesus is the center of your life, He will establish you, and in Him, you will have strength.
