2 Chronicles 19:5–7 (NKJV)Then he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, and said to the judges, “Take heed to what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment. Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes.” 2 Chronicles 19:5–7 (NKJV)
Hanani, the seer calls out King Jehoshaphat for supporting an evil king instead of making reforms in his own country. So, Jehoshaphat appoints judges in every city and tells them that they are not judging for man, but for the Lord, and they cannot have partiality or take bribes. The judges are to rule for the Lord and not for personal gain, seeing as God does and not that of man.
When we became believers, we were called to see our fellow man as God does, and love our neighbors as ourselves, no matter their social statis, political views, economic statis, race, religion, or ethnic background. 2 Corinthians 5:16 says, “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.” We no longer see everyone around us from our personal view but now see people through the lens of Christ’s love. We are serving them for the Lord, and we see as He does, with deep love, purpose, and value, even in the face of human sin and imperfection.
Choose to serve for the Lord, seeing each person for their inherent worth as He does. Meditate on Scripture, so you develop “eyes” that see as He does. Regular reading and reflection aligns your mind with His, valuing character, integrity, and the inner worth of a person, over superficial traits. When you are serving for the Lord, you embrace your identity in Christ and respond to every person with love and compassion.
