It's All About Timing

2 Samuel 5:3 God chose David to be king when he was a teenager, but God wasn't ready for David to rule. He had to go through some seasoning so that he could be a great leader. Just like David, God seasons us too.

Therefore, all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel. 2 Samuel 5:3 (NKJV)

David was anointed king over all of Isreal as a teenager, so why did it take so long to take over the throne? God knew that David was not ready for the throne and he had some growing to do before he could be the king that God intended for him to be. God needed to develop his faith, patience, and leadership skill through trials. David had to wait over 15 years to become king, and was not passively waiting, but was learning to trust God and become a strong leader. God also had to work on Isreal. The nation had to go through a period of poor leadership by Saul and domination by the Philistines before they could see that David was the one God wanted on the throne. God saw David's core attributes as a young man and developed them to be used at His perfect timing.

In today's fast paced world, we tend to want things done right away, and may ask God, "Why are you taking so long?" Just like David, God knows when we are ready. God's timing is important because it reflects His infinite wisdom and purpose. It teaches us patience, builds trust, and aligns our actions with a greater purpose. Like David, waiting is not passive but transformative, molding character, strengthening faith, and shifting our focus from immediate gratification to an eternal perspective. Recognizing God's timing requires spiritual discernment, prayer, and reflection. When the time is right, God uses us for His greater purpose.

Choose to wait on God's timing for whatever he wants to do in your life. Stay engaged and deepen your relationship with God. Use the time for consistent prayer, reading the bible, and spending time in His presence. Choose to believe that God hears you and trust that He is working for your good. See your waiting as a chance for spiritual refinement, developing faith, and becoming more like Him. When you wait on God's perfect timing, you become transformed into the person God intended you to be.
