The inheritance of the Simeonites was taken from the share of Judah, because Judah’s portion was more than they needed. So, the Simeonites received their inheritance within the territory of Judah. Joshua 19:9 (NIV)

Caleb's clan was of the tribe of Judah, and because of his courage and trust in God, Judah was given first rights and inherited a significant portion of the southern part of the promised land. Their portion was more than they needed, so land within their territory was given to the tribe of Simeon who were half their size but needed land. The tribes worked together to claim their inheritance, showing the power of community. The Israelites were stronger because of their community.

Community and sharing our resources are essential for Christians. Hebrews 10:24 says, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds," and 1 John 3:17 says "If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?" How are we contributing to the inheritance of those around us? Are we like the children of Judah, willing to look beyond ourselves and provide for those who are less fortunate? By sharing, not only do we fulfill God's commandments, but we build lasting relationships and trust within our communities.

Take a look at your resources and see how God has blessed you. Choose to help your community. Contact your church to help those in need within its walls. If you can't afford to buy groceries, donate your time and deliver meals. We are a community of believers, and we need to help each other in our times of need. By sharing what God has given us, we will build a strong community rooted in His love.
