It's a Simple Matter

2 Kings 5:13 When Naaman goes to Elisha to heal his leprosy, he is told to wash in the Jordan and becomes furious because he was expecting something grand. Accepting Jesus is something grand but takes a simple act.

And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 2 Kings 5:13 (NKJV)

Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Syria and he had leprosy. A Hebrew servant girl told him about Elisha, so he took ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing to give to Elisha in exchange for his healing. When he reached Elisha's house a servant met him and told him to go wash in the Jordan seven times, which made Naaman furious because Elisha did not come out of the house and perform a grand act to heal him. As Naaman walked away in disgust, his servant told him if Elisha had asked him to do something great, he would have done it, so why didn't he do something simple. Naaman went to the Jordan and washed, was healed, and tried to give the treasure to Elisha. Elisha would not take it because Naaman's healing was an act of God.

Like Naaman becoming clean, when we accept Christ, we perform a simple act that has a grand outcome. It can't be bought and we don't have to hop on one foot while patting our head with one hand and rubbing our stomach with the other. Accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior and defeating eternal death is a simple matter. Romans 10:9 says, "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." There is nothing you can do that is greater than the act of accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, but there is no action simpler than just believing.

If you have not accepted Jesus as your savior, and want to be saved, declare these words:

"Lord Jesus, I come to You with an open heart. I confess my sins and my need for Your mercy. I believe You died for me and rose again, breaking the power of sin and death. Today, I turn from my old ways and place my trust in You alone. Wash me clean, fill me with Your Spirit, and guide my steps from this day forward. I am Yours, now and forever. Amen."

If you are a believer, write the words down on a notecard and keep it in your wallet or purse. Someday, God will bring someone to you that is in trouble and needs salvation. Tell them about Jesus and His healing power. Ask them if they want Jesus in their lives, and when they do, be ready to recite the prayer of salvation with them. Give them a hug and tell them about a church where they can go to plug-in and learn more about what Jesus has done for us. Be ready to give them their first bible and have them read the gospel of John. When you choose to bring someone to Christ, you perform a simple matter that yields a tremendous outcome.
