Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh bronze? Job 6:12 (NKJV)
Frustrated and in pain, Job grieves over his human frailty, acknowledging that he is not made of stone or bronze and cannot endure suffering indefinitely. Over the previous three months, Job had lost every worldly possession, all of his children were killed, and his body was covered with boils. Instead of coming to comfort him, he endures a direct attack by his friend Eliphaz, who questions his integrity and accuses him of wickedness. Job has had enough and does not know if he is going to be able to take any more suffering.
Just like Job, we can feel like the whole world is against us and we are not going to survive our suffering. But we have a Rock to lean on that strengthens us when we feel weak. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12:9-11, "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." Jesus is our source of strength when we feel weak and can no longer go on. It is through His power that we are able to endure whatever trial or situation that is causing us to suffer.
Choose to rely on Christ rather than yourself when you feel weak and can no longer take the suffering. Start by building a strong relationship with Jesus. True strength in Christ is not about physical or personal ability but about spiritual empowerment through a relationship with Him. Pray regularly and present your worries and requests to God with thanksgiving, allowing His peace to guard your heart and mind. Read scripture every day and meditate on it, recognizing all the miracles that Jesus performed in the bible. If He did the impossible in biblical times, He could do it for you today. Keep a journal of all the blessing in your life and all that God had got you through. If He was faithful for you in the past, He will be faithful now. Align your life with God's truth, choosing to walk in obedience to Him, and trusting that He is in control of everything. Lean on your brothers and sisters in Christ to support and lift you up in your times of trouble. Your flesh is not bronze, but your spirit is made gold through the blood of Jesus, the Rock that you can lean on in times of weakness.
