But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor [b]evil occurrence. 1 Kings 5:4 (NKJV)
David wanted to build the temple, but he was a man of war and had blood on his hands, so the Lord told him he was not going to be the one to build the temple. Solomon, known for his wisdom and peaceful reign, was chosen to succeed David and to undertake the construction of the temple. The name "Solomon" itself is derived from the Hebrew word for peace, "shalom," which underscores the significance of his peaceful rule in contrast to David's warrior background. This peaceful environment was essential for building a temple, a dwelling place for God, symbolizing stability and divine presence.
Like Solomon, God knows that we need an inner peace to effectively do His work. Inner peace is essential for doing God's work because it allows us to maintain a calm and focused mindset, which is crucial for spiritual growth and service. It enables us to handle life's challenges with grace and to interact with others in a way that reflects God's love and peace. Additionally, inner peace helps in making wise decisions and in maintaining a peaceful coexistence with God, which is foundational for spiritual discipline and service. So, where do we go for that peace when the world around us is falling apart? Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Choose to embrace the grace of God through faith in Jesus, which is essential for true peace. Recognize that Jesus has conquered death and offers eternal life, providing peace with God through faith in Him. Pray daily to seek the Holy Spirit's guidance and strength to face life's challenges with calmness and confidence. Choose to live out Jesus' teachings, such as love, kindness, and humility, which contribute to a harmonious relationship with others and the world. When you have the inner peace provided by Jesus, you build an inner temple to the Lord and become effective in doing His work.
