Saul answered, “But am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?” 1 Samuel 9:21 (NIV)
Even though the Benjamite tribe is the smallest tribe in Isreal, Sauls dad is described as a mighty man. Saul is sent out to look for his father's lost donkeys and when he cannot find them, decides to go Samuel for help. Unbeknownst to him, God was using the event to bring the new king of Israel to Samuel. On the day before, God told Samuel that He would bring Samuel to him. When Saul meets up with Samuel, he is told that he will become king, he says that he is from the least of the least and does not deserve a great honor. Saul is still focusing on finding his dad's donkeys and Samuel says don't worry about that because they have been found. Saul could have said my dad is mighty and I deserve the position, but he chose to say I am not worth the title and enter kingship with humility and honor.
As Christians, we need to remember it is God who provides for us and gives us opportunities. You may say that I got myself to where I am at, but who made you. We need to serve at whatever position God has put us at with humility and honor. James 4:10 says, "Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you." We need to serve with an attitude of gratitude, recognizing that it is God that we are serving no matter how small or how big of a position we have. When we enter the opportunities given to us by God with humility and honor, He gives us success.
Choose to give the glory to God for whatever you do. Give glory to God for your family, for your friends, for your job, for your service to him, and most of all give glory to God for you are saved through the blood of Jesus Christ. Choose to live your life with humility and honor.
