How Then Can I Answer Him

Job 9:14-15 Job realizes that he cannot answer or argue with God and is left to beg mercy from Him instead. Like Job, we cannot argue with God but are given mercy when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior.

How then can I answer Him, and choose my words to reason with Him? For though I were righteous, I could not answer Him; I would beg mercy of my Judge. Job 9:14-15 (NKJV)

In the middle of his reflection on God’s overwhelming power and sovereignty, Job acknowledges that no person, no matter how righteous they are, can stand before God and win an argument. He knows that his knowledge and wisdom is limited compared to the unlimited power and wisdom of God. He knows there is no use even trying to compare himself to God because the Lord is beyond any comparison that a human could make. Instead, Job knows that the best course of action is to beg mercy of his Judge.

As believers we know that we know we cannot win an argument with God, but we can experience God's mercy when we lay ourselves at the feet of the One who went to the cross for us. Romans 5:9-10 says, "Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!" When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, God imparts mercy on us because of the blood that Jesus spilled on the cross. By His blood we are justified and in God's eyes it is just as we have never sinned.

Chose to live a life of obedience to God, knowing that the blood that Jesus shed for you, cleanses you from sin, redeems you, and empowers you to live in fellowship with God. Jesus paid the price to deliver you from the power of darkness, obtaining God's mercy and bringing you into the Kingdom of Light. Know that no matter how bad your life gets, that Jesus is with you, getting you through the fire and bringing you peace. Look forward to a life in heaven with God and the eternal peace you will experience. You cannot answer God, but you can receive mercy from the Judge by the blood that cleanses from sin, provides forgiveness, redeems from darkness, establishes the New Covenant, empowers righteous living, and brings you healing and spiritual life.
