2 Kings 13:23 Even though Israel was not following the Lord, he still had compassion on the people and kept them from being destroyed by the Syrians.

But the Lord was gracious to them, had compassion on them, and regarded them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence. 2 Kings 13:23 (NKJV)

After Jehu, Jehoahaz and Jehoash reigned in Isreal and did evil in the sight of the Lord, leading the people away from Him. Because of their evil, the Lord used Hazael, king of Syria to oppress Isreal. Because of the promise that He had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God did not let Syria destroy Israel.

Just like the Israelites, we are destined for destruction, but because of God's love and compassion for us, we were given a way out. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" God giving His own Son for us on the cross was an act of compassion. It had nothing to do with our actions or a reward for good work. Jesus went to the cross willingly so that we could be with His father in heaven for all eternity in peace. There is no greater act of compassion that anyone could do.

If you are a believer, take the time today to think about the act of compassion that God and Jesus did for you. There is no greater love. If you have not accepted Christ as your savior, choose to believe in Him, and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. Find a church to plug into and build a relationship with Jesus. As you get closer to Him, you will grow in love and compassion. Show that compassion to the world and talk to those in need about what Jesus has done for you. Tell them of God's compassion for them and a life with Jesus.
