Jehoash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 2 Kings 12:2 (NKJV)

Jehoash was seven years old when he became king, and he had Jehoiada the priest instructing him in the ways of the Lord. Under Jehoiada's guidance, Jehoash repaired damage to the temple from the neglect during Athaliah's reign. While he initially did what was right in the sight of the Lord, he later fell into idolatry after Jehoiada's death, showing the need for godly counsel. Because of his fall, God allowed King Hazael of Syria to attack him, taking away all the sacred thing from the temple.

Like Jehoash, godly counsel needs to be part of our walk with God. The people that we listen to are the ones that determine what paths we take. Hebrews 13:7 says, “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” God put pastors and elders in our lives to guide and lead us in the ways of the Lord when we have questions. The presence of pastors and elders in our lives is a testament to God's desire to guide and protect His people. God put them in our lives to nurture our faith, provide guidance, and support us in navigating the challenges of a spiritual life.

Choose to go to a pastor or elder of your church when you are facing a challenge. God put them in your life to get you through your trials and tribulations. Don't go to your buddy or the neighbor down the street that says, "that is what you should do": you may be led in the wrong direction. Go to the people that are rooted in the word and refer to the word for their guidance. Attend church weekly and do not forsake meeting with other believers who are aligned with the Lord. Thank your pastors for their service and choose godly counsel.
