So, Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom. 2 Samuel 17:14 (NKJV)

David is in the wilderness, exhausted and in danger of a surprise attack by Absolom's men and Absolom seeks counsel from advisors. Ahithophel gives the best advise which is to take twelve thousand men and capture David while he is weak, hungry, and exposed. Instead, he takes Hushai's advice, who uses Absalom's vanity and over-cautious nature to take his advice. He tells Absolom that David is like a bear robbed of her cubs and that he should gather all of Isreal, with Absolom leading, so he can get all the credit for capturing David. Hushai sends a secret message for David and his men to flee across the Jordan. David was doomed in the wilderness and because of God's faithfulness, he was delivered to safety.

David wrote Psalm 63 while in the wildness and it is a model for spiritual sustenance in God during difficult circumstances and characterized by deep emotional honest and unwavering faith. Psalm 63:11 says, "But the king shall rejoice in God; Everyone who swears by Him shall glory; But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped." Just as God was faithful in delivering David out of the wildness, he is faithful in delivering us from our troubles. Jesus says in John 16:33, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Challenges and struggles are inevitable, but we can find peace and courage in Christ's victory over adversity. We need trust in Jesus during difficult times, because we are not alone in our battles. Our faith will provide strength and hope amidst life's trials and God will be faithful to get us through them.

Choose to rely on God's faithfulness. Print out Psalm 63 and read it with an earnest heart and speak it to God when you are going through trials. Keep a daily journal and write down the victories that God has won for you. Go to your journal in times of trouble so you can see that He has been faithful. In everything you do, approach it in prayer asking for God's guidance. Strengthen yourself for the bad times by reading the bible daily. When you trust in the Lord, He is faithful and will bring you through your trials.
