These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants. 1 Chronicles 20:8 (NKJV)
David goes to war with the Philistines and three giants are referenced. Sibbechai the Hushathite killed Sippai, whose name means threshold, and represents the limits we reach and cannot get past without some help. Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi, meaning my war, and can describe our personal wars. The final giant had six fingers on each hand and six toes one each foot, who was killed by Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, which can represent the numerous trials that we face and are too many for us to count.
Like David, when we reach our thresholds, our personal war seems too big to fight, or our troubles are too many to count, we have help in achieving our victorious. Romans 8:31 says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” In the heat of out trials, we need to remember that we have a God who is bigger than any situation that we may be in. He created us, He created the world, and He created the universe and everything in it, so why don't we go to Him to help us through our trials? We just need to stop being stubborn, trying to do things on our own, and ask the Lord to help us in our troubles.
