God is Always There

Job 30:12 Job laments the reversal of his status and the hostility he now faces, describing how those who should support him instead turn against him. Even then God is still with him.

At my right hand the rabble arises; They push away my feet, And they raise against me their ways of destruction. Job 30:12 (NKJV)

Job expresses his disdain at the young men who are outcasts and now mock him. In a short time, he had gone from the pillar of society, respected by all, to a wretched person, hated by all. Job feels violently opposed, humiliated, and besieged by hostile people, pushing him down, and building destructive paths or siege ramps against him. He complains that his friends who should be supporting him and lifting him up, now condemn him and accuse him of doing wickedness. Even though he feels as if the whole world is against him, he neglects to see that there is one who is always there for him.

Like Job, we can be judged due to accusations, loss of work, or homelessness, leading others to have contempt for us. We can feel that the honor and respect given us is now gone, replaced by disgrace and humiliation, leading us to feel like the whole world condemns us and we have no one on our side. We always have One on our side. Hebrews 13:5 which says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you,’” promises us of God’s unchanging presence and that He loves us no matter what. As believers we also have Jesus who says in John 14:1–3, “Do not let your hearts be discouraged. You believe in God; believe also in me… I will come again and will be with you.”

As a Christian choose to see the homeless, the disgraced, and the accused through the eyes of God, and not as the world does. The world sees a disgraced person by outward reputation and visible failure. In contrast, God does not define them by their shame, but as a repentant child of His, worthy of forgiveness, restoration, and honor. Remember that just as God is always there for them, He is always there when you feel condemned and disgraced by a judging world for your situation or actions you may have committed. Seek out a faith-based recovery group where you can give your hurts, habits, and hangups to Jesus and be supported by other believers who see you as a child of God. Choose to be like Jesus and be always there for others as He is always there for you.
