And David said, “Good, I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require of you: you shall not see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come to see my face.” 2 Samuel 3:13 (NKJV)

After having a dispute with Ish-bosheth, Abner knew it was time to unite Isreal. Through the rule of the Ish-bosheth, the northern tribes were growing weaker and Abner recognized it was God's will for David to rule. As commander of Saul's army, Abner held significant influence and a way to bring an end to the civil war. He approaches David and offers a covenant, which is approved by David on the stipulation that his wife is returned to him. Abner agrees and convinces the elders of Isreal and Benjamin to accept David as their king. The unification is slowed by Joab killing Abner, but a way is paved for David's complete kingship.

Like Abner, forgiveness and healing is crucial for Christians. Satan's best tactic is to divide and conquer, fracturing the unity of the church, thus hindering its witness and effectiveness. Ephesians 4:26-27 says, "In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold." It is important to manage anger and resolve conflicts promptly to prevent bitterness and negative influences in our lives because unresolved issues will lead to further sin or spiritual harm. When we choose to forgive our brothers and sisters, healing begins and the church grows stronger, making it more effective in bringing the world to Christ.

Choose to freely forgive like Christ forgave you. Don't let the devil weaken you with unresolved hate and pain. When you freely forgive, your stress and negative emotions will be lowered, your well-being will be improved, you will think clearer, and you will take back the power that Satan took from you. Remember that forgiveness is a choice and it is for you. When you forgive, you let go of a grudge for your own healing, whether the other person deserves it or not. Like David, when forgiveness is given, the path to healing starts and we become stronger as believers, united through Christ, who freely forgave us all.
