As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day. Joshua 15:63 (NKJV)
The conquest for the promised land was complete, but there were battles still to be fought. The Jebusites represented one such battle. The tribe of Judah were forced to live with the Jebusites in the city of Jerusalem because they could not root them out. They posed social and spiritual problems for the Jewish people. The Jebusites were known for their pagan practices, including child sacrifice. The Israelites living in Jerusalem intermarried with them and adapted their pagan principals, distorting their faith. It was King David who finally defeated the Jebusites and rid his city of the disease that plagued them.
Just like the Israelites, Christians today have obstacles when walking in their faith. Doubt, fear, worldly values, and false teachings as some of the things that get in the way of our faith. Faith is essential in our walk with God. Hebrews 11:6 says, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Overcoming obstacles in the Christian walk of faith is a journey that requires perseverance and a deep understanding of the scriptures.
Choose to make your faith a priority today. Start each morning with prayer and make it part of your whole day. Read the bible daily, even if it is just one verse that you can reflect on for the day. Choose to live by His Word and not our world. Go to other Christians for strength when you feel weak and have doubt. Chose to trust God and He will strengthen your faith.
