In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Judges 17:6 (NKJV)

Chapter 17 starts out with Micah from the tribe of the Danites stealing 1,100 pieces of silver, the exact amount that the Philistines paid Delilah to betray Samson in the previous chapter. There was an absence of leadership and moral and ethical standards were not enforced. The theft of the silver, which Micah did give back without repenting, represented the rebellion against God's law without remorse. To make things worse, Michah's mother takes 200 pieces of silver and has a molded image made which signifies the corruption of God's Holy Word. Then Micah paid a Levite to live with him and become his personal priest. This illustrated the Israelites worshipping according to their personal preferences rather than following God's commandments. Micah remade God to fit his needs, and it not only was going to cause his downfall, but that of the tribe of Dan.

2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness". The bible of our forefathers is the bible that we have today. Christians may say times have changed, so we need to change the bible to fit our needs. The thing that they forget is that the God of the Old Testament and of the New Testament, is the God of today, and He is the God of tomorrow. When God breathed out the scripture, he knew what the world of today would be like. He knew exactly what we would need to guide us to Jesus. We are all sinners, and all sin is the same to God. Everyone is equally doomed to eternal death. That is why He gave His only Son that whoever should believe in Him would be redeemed from eternal death. We don't need to remake God, because he is exactly what we need.

Protect yourself from conforming the bible to fit your needs. Read the scripture daily and meditate on it. Ask God, "how does this apply to my life?" Do a personal check every day and see where you have deviated from God's word. If someone tells you that the bible says something is ok, do a fact check. Read it in the bible for yourself because God wants to talk to you personally. He is a God that does not need to be remade.
