So, an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And he said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” 2 Kings 7:2 (NKJV)

Because of the Syrian occupation, the famine in Samaria was so great that people were eating their children. King Jehoram went to Elisha to blame him for the conditions, and Elisha said that by the next day at the same time, food would be plentiful, causing doubt in the king's official. Because of his doubt, Elisha told the officer that he would see it with his own eyes but not eat of it. The next day four leapers ventured into the Syrian camp looking for mercy, only to find it empty. God had caused a great fear to fall on the Syrians that they ran away, leaving all their provisions behind. When word got back to the city, the official was trampled to death at the gate by all the people trying to get to the camp.

Doubt is one of the tools that Satan uses to control us and keep us from the rewards that comes from God. James 1:6 says, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” Satan uses doubt to keep you in your addictions. He lies to you and says, people will judge you and that you are the worst of sinners, not deserving Gods help. He tells you that you have ruined your life and that you are useless to God. Satan uses doubt to keep you from the restoration that only comes from laying your hurt, habits, and hangups on Jesus' feet and receiving the rewards of a loving Father.
