Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, “Amen! May the Lord God of my lord the king say so too. 1 Kings 1:36 (NKJV)
David had two sons that proclaimed to be king after him. The first son was Adonijah, who exalted himself saying I will be king. He had some support, but the chief priests and David's mighty men did not support him. God exalted the second son, Solomon, who was a man of humility and gratitude towards his Lord. God confirmed his decision to support Solomon as king through the prophets and the people of Isreal. When Solomon was made king all of Isreal rejoiced with great joy.
How do we know if God is supporting something that we want to do? Just like in the case of Solomon, there is a litmus test. The first step is to always pray about it and ask God for guidance in your choices. Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength." The next step is to see if your choice aligns with biblical principles and teachings. If it doesn't align with the moral and ethical teachings of the bible, it is not of God's will. Also look inside yourself. God will give you a peace and inner conviction about your choice. If there are inner turmoil and indecisiveness, it is most likely not of God's will. Finally, look for support and encouragement from those around you, especially those with spiritual authority. There will always be signs of God's support.
Choose to be like Solomon and approach an idea with humility and gratitude to the Lord. Pray with an earnest heart about it and seek guidance from a spiritual advisor. Do a self-check and see if you have an inner peace about it. If God is supporting your idea, he will always send conformation.
