Some remove landmarks; They seize flocks violently and feed on them; They drive away the donkey of the fatherless; They take the widow’s ox as a pledge. Job 24:2–4 (NKJV)

After proclaiming the righteousness judgments of God, Job describes the systematic exploitation and oppression of the poor and vulnerable by those in power. Job affirms that God is just and will judge, but he sees a gap between God’s character and the visible reality of oppression. His lament underscores the moral imperative to defend the vulnerable and shows that injustice is not just individual acts but patterns of behavior that harm entire communities.

As believers Jesus commands us to help the vulnerable, the weak, the downtrodden, and the marginalized and is equivalent to serving Jesus, Himself. Jesus says in Matthew 25:40, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Jesus emphasizes that acts of kindness and compassion toward those who are poor, sick, imprisoned, or otherwise marginalized are not merely social gestures but are direct expressions of love and service to Him. As believers we are called to serve individuals who are often overlooked or powerless in society, underscoring the inherent value of every person.

Choose to serve Jesus, having a life of active faith, demonstrating love by coming to the aid of the vulnerable and marginalized rather than mere words or rituals. Recognize Jesus in every person, especially the vulnerable and engage in daily acts of compassion, such as feeding, sheltering, or visiting those in need, understanding that faith is inseparable from action, aligning with the biblical principle that faith without works is dead. By defending the marginalized, you honor Christ directly, making compassion and service central to living out your faith.
