And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 1 Samuel 8:7 (NKJV)

Samuel is getting old and his sons who are judging Israel are corrupt. Because of the son's corruption and a trend that the nations around them are following, the Israelites want a king to lead them. Samuel has big problems with their request and prays to the Lord about it. God lets Samuel know that the people are rejecting the Lords leadership and not his. Samuel is told to let the people know the perils of having a king over the divine leadership of God. He lets them know what they will give up and they still choose a king over God's direct rule.

Like the Israelites, Christians today are being tempted to conform to worldly standards. Some conformances may seem small, but as they grow, we get pulled away from Christ. Moral relativism challenges Christian beliefs by suggesting that moral truths are subjective and vary with situations. Social media is being used to distort Christian values and pull us away from God's truth and His leadership. Christians need to stay rooted in the Word and when we read or hear something we need to test it against the bible. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Choose to go to your bible daily, testing what you hear and read in the world today. Satan is our enemy, and he wants to you to accept the norms of the world over the truth of the bible. He makes its all seem good so that he can separate you from God. Tell him, "Get behind me Satan, for God is my leader. I will trust and follow in His ways." Choose God's divine guidance and He will not lead you astray.
